HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

The first day of school can be a little intimidating, but if you’re fully prepared, you can turn that nervousness into excitement and face the first day of school with confidence!

Here are some important items to check off your list to make sure your first day runs smoothly:

  1. Make sure you have the right school supplies. Your school may be providing the supplies, but don’t forget items such as a backpack and lunchbox.

  2. Tour the school. If your school allows it, you can walk around and see where your classes and locker are. This familiarity will ease your nerves when the big day arrives.

  3. Finish your summer homework. Did your school assign summer reading or writing? Make sure you tie up those loose ends before walking into class the first day.

  4. Plan your route to school. If you’re taking the bus, make sure you know what time the bus arrives and exactly where the bus stop is. If your parents are taking you, ask them to do a practice run with you to get you familiar with the location. You’ll know how long it takes to get to school, and you won’t be afraid of getting lost.

  5. Make sure you have lunch. Talk with your parents about your lunch plans. Will they pack your lunch? Will they be giving you lunch money, or is your account funded? Find out your school’s policy on snacking; if your school allows snacks, pack a few healthy bites to keep your mind sharp.

  6. Prepare for extracurriculars. If you’re in a class or club that requires its own supplies, make sure you know what you need. If you don’t, call the school and ask an office employee.

  7. Have your clothes ready. Plan your first-day outfit, along with shoes and accessories. Make sure clothes are clean and presentable. This way, you won’t need to worry about what to wear that morning. Remember gym class and sports, too. You’ll want to bring the right clothes (and shower items) for exercise.

  8. Have a good attitude. It’s going to be a great year full of learning, friends and fun—especially if you plan on making it that way.

Remember, if you want to be a leader, look into joining clubs at school. You can also lead by example: Behave with kindness and consideration, and do your very best!
